History of Liverpool FC
After becoming a member of the football league in 1893, the club then won promotion to the first division after one season in the second division. Liverpool went on to establish themselves as a top club, winning League titles in 1901, 19906, 1922, and 1923.
Although an incredibly popular club, Liverpool were not consistent after the WW2 era. They claimed their fourth League title in 1947 but then entered a period of mediocrity which led to their relegation to the Second Division in 1954. Things took a positive turn in 1954 when they appointed their new manager Bill Shankly. Shankly used unorthodox methods that earned them promotion in 1963; Liverpool also won the league two years later. During Shanklys’ time in charge, Liverpool went on to win two League titles in 1966 and 1973, two FA Cups in 1965 and 1974, as well as their first-ever European trophy where they won the UEFA Cup in 1973.
After Shankly retired, Liverpool continued to be very successful in European competitions. In 2005 Liverpool won their first ever Champions League, and in 2020 they won their very first Premier League title.
