Phoenix Sun is a slot game that has been based on the legendary Phoenix bird, although it also carries an Ancient Egyptian theme in what could be considered a rather unique twist as the bird is not thought to be part of that particular mythology.
Nonetheless, our Phoenix Sun game review found that Quickspin had certainly spent a lot of focus on making this game aesthetically pleasing as possible, whilst also providing players with a rather interesting format when they start to spin the reels.
Players will notice that the Phoenix Sun slot game starts off with a huge grid that then decreases in size by the time the first spin is made. The grid starts off – and remains – five reels long, however it drops from six rows high to just three rows. However, the interesting element is that the grid can expand when the right symbols fall in place and can return to the huge 5×6 grid that is displayed!
So, paylines start with a huge 243 Ways to Win to begin with, as Quickspin have adopted this format rather than sticking with the more traditional methods. However, with the playing grid featuring the possibility of expanding, so do the paylines. When the grid is fully made available, there are a whopping 7,776 Ways to Win!
Players can experience the rather unique grid either by playing the Phoenix Sun Free Play game at the top of our page, or they can look to place real money bets of between R0.25 and R100 to get the action started. The ‘Autoplay’ and the ‘Quickspin’ functions all make an appearance on the game panel across the bottom of the grid.
Keeping in line with the Ancient Egypt theme the developers have gone for, the icons available on the paytable feature the standard 10 through to Ace playing card icons as the low-value rewarders, whilst they are followed by Scarab, Anubis, Bastet, Cleopatra and Tutankhamun. The latter of the icons is the most rewarding.
During our Phoenix Sun review, we found that the game features two different Wild symbols, with one providing players with the best bonus features available. Each of these Wilds do not provide any cash rewards when they appear, though.
The first Wild is a golden icon that has the ability to substitute for other regular paytable icons and help to provide prizes when it forms part of a winning combination.
However, the Phoenix Wild icon is the most exciting symbol in the game as this activates the ‘Phoenix Rising Respins’ feature.
When at least one of these symbols appears on the reels and is part of a winning combination, it will burst into three flames which will then be shot into three random positions on the rows which are locked. The more Wilds, the more shots that will be fired, with three per icon always happening.
A respin will be granted but the Phoenix Wild will not be locked into place, thus if one does not appear on the respin, the round comes to an end. If one does, the respin will be retrigged with more positions becoming available.
Five are needed to unlock the whole grid and to make it completely playable. Achieving this will also trigger the Free Spins round. Eight Free Spins will be awarded with the whole grid activated, thus providing players with the ability to spin for winnings across the 7,776 Ways to Win paylines!
RTP (return to player)
Quickspin’s Phoenix Sun slot game has a return to player (RTP) rate of 96.08% and could be considered a medium to high volatility slot game, therefore meaning wins can be big, but perhaps a little infrequent.
